I am a Tamil medium student, sir, but I have no idea, sir, how to start this preparation, and then books refer sir?
Question from: Thenmozhi.K
Answered by: Dr. V. Ramprasath Manohar IAS
I am also a Tamil Medium student and I have studied in Government Schools till my 12th Standard. Therefore, being a tamil Medium (or any other regional language medium) is not a limitation to become civil servant (IAS, IPS, etc).
With regard to Books to be referred, you can start reading NCERT Books / CBSE Books from 6th Standard to 10th Standard. (History, Geography, Political Science, Science, GK) Books to start your preparation initially to understand basic general knowledge.
Apart from this, you start reading Hindu Newspaper. If you are finding it difficult to read and write English, you can improve English skills, over time with constant practice. Otherwise, you can choose to write exam in Tamil language only. Many aspirants become successful in civil service exam with Tamil Medium.

Which course is best.... Agriculture or MBBS?
Question from: Sneka Ponvali
Answered by: Dr. V. Ramprasath Manohar IAS
Both Agriculture and MBBS are good courses only. However, for civil service preparation, it does not matter. But for your career purpose, MBBS may give more professional opportunity.
If you are taking Agriculture subject, it is better to complete post graduation, to get more opportunities for your career as Agricultural research Scientist, Professor or in any private Agribusiness.
However, I advise you to decide based on your passion and career choice. You can excel in any field you choose provided you focus your efforts with passion

You have to study Hindu Newspaper, Economic Times Newspaper regularly to improve your general knowledge and current affairs knowledge.
While reading newspaper, you have to give more focus on national, international, economic, sports related news stories( both factual and analytical aspects of news). Editorials published in Newspaper will give more analytical points for civil service mains examination.
You please refer previous year general knowledge question papers and analyse how the questions are being asked in current affairs related portions. So, while reading Newspaper, you have to keep that exam perspective in mind.
